Review: Flowermate V5 Nano
How it Works
Load up the chamber with medium-fine ground herb before tamping it down a bit. Power the unit on by hitting the button 5 times, and select your temperature using the other two buttons. Hold down the power button again to get it started and wait ~30-45 seconds for it to heat up fully.
Once its ready to go, itll vibrate to let you know! You have 5 minutes for your session before it enters standby mode, where holding the power button again for a few seconds will start the session again.
Temperature Flexibility
The Nano has a wide temperature range, between 40-230°C/104-446°F. This is great for dialing in your ideal setting and even for use with concentrates!
From our testing we’ve found the best temperature for the Flowrmate v5 Nano to be just shy of 200°C which is great for full extraction while still retaining the flavour of the dry herb without overly cooking it.
The highest setting surpasses most big-time units like the famed Storz & Bickel Mighty. Obviously, don’t expect the V5 Nano to beat the Mighty in the vapour department, but the fact that it offers a higher maximum temperature than the Mighty is a welcome addition.
Vapour Quality
The Nano is pretty good, especially for an entry level unit. The convection/conduction hybrid heating element has more power than its predecessors, leading to larger, thicker draws. The removable Flowermate V5 Nano glass mouthpiece allows for a pretty unchanged flavour which is a big bonus over silicon or plastic mouthpieces.
The draw resistance is also improved from its brothers and overall the vapour quality is an improvement on all fronts. Larger hits may tickle the throat and lungs, however, especially those who are particularly sensitive.
The vapour certainly is not as good as higher end units, especially convection based units like the Utillian 722, but for the price of the V5 Nano, we were pretty happy.
Manufacturing Quality
As with most Flowermate units, the Nano is well built and feels great in the hand just like the Zeus Arc GT. The buttons, threading, and body are all well machined and present a nice, solid feeling.
We don’t love the plastic sliding door on the top of the V5 Nano, but it is a necessary evil to cover the heating chamber and keep your herbs from falling out.
Included in the box is a solid kit including the unit itself, a mouthpiece, 2500mAh 18650 battery, concentrates pod, dry herb pod, loading cap, 5 * spare screens, cleaning brush, carrying pouch, Micro USB cable, and user manual.
Battery Life
The removable 2500mAh 18560 flowermate v5 nano battery gets roughly 6-8 sessions per charge or around 30-40 minutes of on-time. This will vary depending on your temperature setting and use habits.
Users who prefer a larger battery should check out the Zeus Arc S Hub; its 3500mAh battery makes it a great budget contender.
The big part here is that the Nano uses a removable 18650, which allows you to swap out on the go in case you run dry. However, we did notice the battery drawer can be a bit finicky and we had issues unlatching and latching it unlike removing the battery from the Focus V Pro which was actually effortless.
Though Flowermate recommends using their branded 18650 batteries, you likely could run any compatible 18650 and generate great results still. Ensure its rated to the same specs as the stock battery though!
Portability
As the name suggests, the Nano is pretty small and is a great pocket companion just like the Arizer Solo 2! The removable mouthpiece is a great touch with the small storage compartment to tuck it away into, leaving it in a safe place and shrinking the overall carry size even further.
And of course, the removable battery is convenient for extending your time between charges when you are out and about.
Ease of Use
The Flowermate line of vapourizers are pretty easy units to get a hang of, and the Flowermate Nano is no exception. With no special draw technique and simple operation, friends and strangers can take good draws without any further coaching. However, users who are not familiar with how temperature is set for smooth vaping usually prefer the LITL 1 because it comes with one preset temperature setting and requires little to no assistance.
Cleaning is a breeze too. Soak the mouthpiece in a cleaning solution to get rid of any grime and build-up, while a small cotton swab dipped in iso will clean out the chamber with ease.
Discreetness
Appearing like a conventional e-cig or box mod, taking draws in public will leave most turning a blind eye and not thinking twice.
In storage mode, it can be even dismissed as a small power bank. It does emit a more notable amount of odor than other units like the Crafty when in use, so keep that in mind if discretion is vital.
Overall Experience
For an entry-level device, the Flowermate Nano is a good little device with all the features we wanted to see! It comes with glass vapour path, full temperature control, OLED display, easy to use and a removable 18650 battery.
Pairing it with the recently released and updated Utillian Glass Bubbler also steps things up a bit, especially in the smoothness department so you might want to consider picking up that accessory as well if you already own a v5 Nano or are planning to purchase one.
Though it doesnt have the raw performance from bigger, more expensive units, it still performs well and will definitely satisfy most beginner users. If you are looking for a step up from the V5 Nano check out the Utillian 722, a quality budget convection vapourizer. The Flowermate Slick is also another device that offers similar functionality but in a pen-style form factor – definitely worth checking out!
