Focus V Carta 2 Review – Is Bigger Really Better?

Updated: March 26, 2024

Focus V has created a new version of the OG Carta, the Carta 2. This innovative E Rig boasts an enlarged atomizer and festive party lights.

Speaking of innovative devices, the Vapor Cup has also made a splash in the market. With the vapour cup, users can experience the unique sensation of sipping vapour as one would drink water. Showcasing the vapour cup at parties can also be a hit, serving as a distinctive accessory that’s sure to spark conversations.

But first, let’s get into all the changes of the Focus V Carta 2 and see if bigger really does mean better in this case. If you would like to see how this electric dab rig stacks up against other popular units, check out our E-Rigs and compare the Carta 2 with some of the most popular e-rigs on the market.

Focus V Carta 2 Main

Focus Carta V how it worksHow It Works

So to use your Carta 2, first detach your bubbler from the base of the unit. It’s a little snug, so I recommend twisting from the base. Fill said bubbler 2/3rds of the way with water, and replace the bubbler onto the base, making sure you align the hole on the bottom of the bubbler with the hole in the base. Screw in your Carta 2 heating elementfor oil, and you’re ready to go. Focus V also created a dry herb atomizer for those who prefer dry herb (Sold Separately). Press the power button 5 times in order to turn your device on, and set your temperature using the provided OLED screen and plus/minus buttons.

We also recommend running a burn off cycle by setting it to the highest temperature and letting it run empty, as this will burn off any chemicals left over from the manufacturing and shipping process. You can cycle through different device settings by single pressing the power button, and using the plus/minus buttons to navigate.

Focus Carta V Vapor QualityVapour Quality

This device has no issues pumping out serious clouds, with the added benefit of water filtration. I found the taste at both low and high temperatures to be enjoyable, making good use of the quartz coated bowl. The temperature flexibility of this device spans from 185°C all the way up to a scorching 335°C with the ability to dial in specific temperatures. It also features 4 prebuilt temperature settings, 60°C, 332°C, 410°C and 450°C, and while these presets are convenient… I personally didn’t find myself using them that often in favor of the custom settings. But that’s not a knock, as the more options the merrier!  I also found that this style of bubbler really allows the vapour to percolate, which improves the quality of the draw. The rubber carb cap features a nifty little insert with a tiny hole that acts kind of like a choke, meaning you can adjust the resistance of your draw really easily. So overall, the Focus V 2 has some of the best vapour quality on the market, largely as a result of the sheer range of options you can choose from.

Since some of the average vapourizer users use these devices for health reasons, being that vapourizing has proven to be less harmful in comparison to smoking. It’s nice to know that users have all the options available to them to find their perfect setting. If you’d like to learn more about vapourizing vs smoking, check out our video experiment here.

Carta 2 Manufacturing qualityManufacturing Quality

Moving on to manufacturing quality, the Carta 2 is a definite improvement over the Carta 1. The all plastic body has been covered with a silicon rubber case, which adds a layer of security when handling this device. The provided atomizer is quartz coated titanium and is now bigger than it was on the original Carta, and it’s compatible with both herb and wax. The Carta 2 also has an LED Strip at the base of the bubbler, and the unit itself. This Rainbow LED is completely customizable when using the app. They’ve also included an OLED screen, which makes dialing in specific temperatures a breeze. If i’m gonna complain about anything, the screen has some visibility issues in brighter environments. I wasn’t able to find any settings to change this. It’s truly the John Cena of OLED screens. Regardless though, the build quality of this device is totally solid, and offers a lot more than the original Carta does.

Focus V Carta 2 Battery LifeBattery Life

When it comes to battery, for some reason Carta V 2 decided to go ham on this aspect, as this device has a surprising amount to offer here. For starters, it comes with a 2000mAh battery, which is good enough for about one and a half days of infrequent use before needing a recharge.

Big points for providing USB-C, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. The Carta 2 has also provided passthrough charging, meaning you can operate this device while it’s plugged in and charging. This makes the Carta 2 an excellent desk option, as you can basically use it on demand indefinitely as a result of this feature, something I found myself doing often.

The Carta 2 also features wireless Qi charging; simply set the unit down on a charging base, and leave it to charge. This feature is pretty awesome, as it takes advantage of the form factor of this device.

Focus V sells a charging base separately to the device designed to match the aesthetic of the Carta 2, with the inclusion of the LED strips found on the device.  This charging base sold by Focus V also acts as a powerbank for on the go charging, meaning you can charge this device while on the go with ease. While it is a bit pricey, it really puts the charging base in a league of its own, compared to other cheap chargers out there. It’s definitely a step up from simply providing a micro-usb port.

This device does have broad QI compatibility, so users looking to save can opt for a non matching, third party wireless charger but if you have the money, go for it!. Regardless, I really appreciate the inclusion of this feature, and I’m surprised wireless charging hasn’t come to more vapourizers in general, considering it’s been in smartphones for years. And we can start to see a common thread, as a 2000mAh battery isn’t usually something to write home about. But the size of the battery doesn’t matter as a result of the wide range of options Focus V gives their users to provide a seamless charging experience.

Carta 2 portabilityPortability

Portability is always tricky with E-Rigs, given that the glass top runs the risk of breaking. But Focus V has provided a slick carrying case, which is rugged enough to allow your device to survive a commute. It also contains compartments for wax tools and accessories, while providing a snug spot for the assembled rig. It also comes with a strap that attaches to the case. Honestly,I don’t think it has any function. The range of options is always appreciated, so as far as portability is concerned, Focus V makes the most out of what’s usually a sticky situation. And users looking to take this device around will find comfort in the durability of the provided carrying case.

Carta 2 Ease of useEase of Use

Now ease of use is good with some caveats. The inclusion of the OLED screen makes setting precise temperatures a total breeze, something I have yet to see on another E-Rig. While this is a strong point of the device, I found that the menu system could use a little refinement. It’s not the most intuitive operation out there, which is fair given the host of features. I highly highly recommend giving the manual once over before operating this device, as you will quickly find yourself confused if you don’t. Focus V offers an app to take full control of the Carta 2 as well. So overall, while there is a learning curve, the Carta 2 does what it can to manage its wide range of features.

Focus V Carta 2 Overall ExperienceOverall Experience

Well, overall I really really enjoyed using this device as it’s really the first E-Rig to provide a wide range of options that even some of the top dry herb vapourizers don’t. Passthrough charging, temperature flexibility and the dual compatibility with herb and wax make it one of the best options for E-Rig enthusiasts. Even the use of an OLED screen is a first, and allows for precision when setting temperatures. It’s no surprise that it ranks highly on our TVAPE ranking. If you wanna see where this rig stands against other devices, I highly recommend checking out our Best of E Rigs post to see how it compares on our website. It is also on the pricier side as a result of its host of features, which can be intimidating if this is your first E-Rig. A device like the Shenzen Crossing Core 1 is a fraction of the price of the Carta 2, but still a great value and produces excellent results if you are looking for something a bit cheaper. So enthusiasts looking to get the most features they can out of an E-Rig will be more than satiated by the wide range of features Focus V provides with the Carta 2.
