What is an E-rig?

E-rigs, also known as E-Nails can be seen as the desktop vaporizer equivalent to wax devices. They offer a more convenient solution than your traditional oil rig.

They do not need a torch as a heat source and heat your nail electronically, usually with a ceramic rod or metal coils. They are often built to work very similar to an oil rig, including a carb cap, to place on top of your atomizer to promote convection heat.

E-nails usually offer temperature control for a fine tuned session and bucket style heating elements and water filtration for smooth draws.

How Do you Use an E-rig?

If you are familiar with using an oil rig, then you will already have an idea of how to use an e-rig. First turn the device on with the power button.

If the e-rig features a digital display you can fine tune your temperature settings to the individual degree. Other e-rigs will feature pre-set temperatures from the manufacturer.

Once the temperature is set, press the power button to begin heating your bucket. With your material attached to a loading tool, drop your extract into the bucket once the device reaches temperature.

At the same time, begin drawing from the bubbler, while capping the atomizer with a carb cap. You can learn more about e-rig in our wax buyers guide.

How Do you Clean an E-rig?

Cleaning e-nails follows the same idea, as cleaning your herb vaporizers. Parts like bubblers can be soaked in a cleaning solution or alcohol.

You can clean bucket and coil atomizers by soaking them in alcohol and allowed time to dry. Coils should be dry fired while empty once clean to ensure no left-over cleaning residue remains.

If you would like to know more about how to clean a wax vaporizer, our handy guide has more suggestions.

What Temperature Do I Set my E-rig?

E-rigs will have either pre-set temperatures or direct temperature control allowing you to set the temperature down to the degree.

The rule of thumb generally is, better flavour is the result of lower temperatures. While bigger clouds are the result of higher temperatures but with less flavour.

Lower temperatures result in more draws and a longer overall session. If you want to take larger draws and use more concentrates then you will want to use higher temperatures.

What’s the Difference Between an E-rig and an E-nail?

While the terms are relatively interchangeable, an e-rig refers to a device that provides the entire e-rig experience. Meaning it includes a bubbler, base, and atomizer. The Core is an example of an e-rig.

An e-nail on the other hand, can refer to just the heating element itself, which on a typical rig is known as the “nail”. E-nails typically don’t include a glass bubbler and are meant to be incorporated with an already existing glass piece. The G-Pen Connect is an example of an e-nail.

Why Choose an E-rig over a Wax Pen?

If you have previously consumed extracts using a traditional rig then you might prefer an e-rig over an oil pen. They provide that wax experience, allowing you to place the concentrates in a heated chamber, while enjoying water filtration.

They also tend to have larger batteries and need to be charged less, and there atomizers are more robust and easier to clean.

How High Do you Fill the Water Bubbler on an E-rig?

When filling a water bubbler on an e-rig, always make sure to remove the glass first. Fill the bubbler just above the air holes. Too much water and you’ll have a refreshing drink to go along with your session. Too little water will result in less optimal filtration and harsh hits.
