How Do you Vaporize Dry Herb Extracts?
Extracts come in a variety of consistencies, from wax to distillates and require specific devices designed to convert them into a vapor.
The heating element of a wax vaporizer is known as an atomizer or coil. Your extract is placed directly into the atomizer where it will be heated. These atomizers heat up red hot extremely quickly, effectively vaporizing your extract. The vapor is then inhaled through a mouthpiece or bubbler. What is the Difference Between a Wax Pen and an E-rig?
Wax pens are small, portable and easy to use on the go. They typically use exposed coil atomizers and have smaller battery capacities. Browse the best wax pens on the market here. E-rigs are geared for at home use, they use bucket style atomizers, have water filtration, and offer larger battery capacities. Browse the best e-rigs on the market here.

What is an Atomizer?
An atomizer is the heating element that vaporizes your wax concentrate. There are typically two different styles of atomizers for wax vaporizers, coil atomizers and bucket atomizers. Coil atomizers work by having an exposed heating coil wrapped around a rod, where the concentrate is placed.
Bucket atomizers are shaped like a bucket and are usually made out of quartz, ceramic or metal. A heating element is usually placed below the bucket, where it passed the heat to the bucket, and then to the concentrate.
Coil Atomizer
- Larger Clouds
- Faster heat transfer
- Better for harder concentrates
- Harder to clean
Bucket Atomizer
- Thinner Clouds
- Better Flavour
- Slower heat transfer
- Easier to clean
What Temperature Should I Use to Vaporize Extracts?
Most wax vaporizer offer a range of temperatures to choose from. Some will only offer pre-set temperatures while others will allow you to dial in a specific temperature.
Generally lower temperatures for extracts results in better flavour but less overall vapor produced. This is good if you prefer smooth draws and longer sessions.
Higher temperatures are better if you are using larger amounts of concentrates and prefer ample vapor production. Flavour will decline more quickly and extracts will be vaporized more quickly.
