Vessel Expedition Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

Updated: April 30, 2024

The Vessel Expedition Trial Edition is one of the latest 510-thread batteries by Vessel – a brand that focuses on making high-quality vapourizers. It’s not the first time we’ve seen this unit but it did go through some updates throughout the years.

The Vessel Expedition series stands out because it works with a wide variety of cartridges. You’re good to go if your cartridge is less than 10.5 mm wide. This makes the Expedition super flexible, no matter what kind of cartridges. You can see how it compares to its most relevant competitors on our 510 threaded batteries ranking page.

We’re going to take a close look at the Vessel Expedition. We’ll compare it to other 510 thread batteries out there. You’ll see what makes it special and why it might be the best choice for you.

So, without further ado, let’s dive deep into the Vessel Expedition review.

How It Works

We recommend charging any device fully before using it. You can charge your Vessel Expedition battery using the magnetic charging port. When it’s fully charged, the LED light will turn off.

Once the unit is charged you are ready to start your session. Here’s a step-by-step on how to use the Vessel Expedition:

Step 1: Remove the non-functional black cartridge (turn counterclockwise and discard).
Step 2: Attach a pre-filled cartridge (screw clockwise).
Step 3: Press the main button five times to turn on the device. An LED will light up.
Step 4: Press the main button three times to toggle between the 4 temperatures.
Step 5: Press and hold the button, then inhale from the mouthpiece.
Step 6: Turn off the device by pressing the main button five times again.

Note: You will have up to 8 seconds to inhale. This is the limit per draw to ensure your concentrate is vapourized and reduce the risk of overheating.

Manufacturing Quality

The Vessel Expedition stands out with an eye-catching and functional design. It’s clear that the creators put a lot of thought into the aesthetics, offering a variety of colors to match any style. The device’s sleek feel is undeniable, and for those who appreciate the minimal look, the black finish is a tactile delight. It’s not just about looks; the Vessel feels substantial in your hand, reminiscent of the Utillian 50 vape that also features a premium pen style.

The Vessel’s air intakes are a testament to its thoughtful design, providing just the right amount of airflow for optimal vapour production and a smooth draw. This feature, along with the cartridge’s protective shield, showcases the brand’s commitment to both performance and safety. The shield is particularly noteworthy, offering peace of mind against the accidental drops that are all too common with handheld devices.

All in all, I really like how this unit looks and feels overall. There are a few things that make this unit great and some that could be improved on but it’s still a viable option for most moderate users.

Temperature Flexibility

The Vessel Expedition offers a range of four voltage settings that allow you to play around with the session. Each Temperature setting will provide slightly different results. The Expedition’s LED system allows you to check which temperature you choose.

  • 2.4 Volts (Green LED) – Ideal for those who prefer low amounts of vapour with high flavour.
  • 2.8 Volts (Cyan LED) – A step up for a bit more vapour.
  • 3.2 Volts (Yellow LED) – Strikes a balance between flavour and cloud production.
  • 3.6 Volts (Magenta LED) – For those who enjoy dense vapour clouds with less flavour.

I think it’s generally enough to have 3 temperature options as long as they are set correctly. When I see 4 temperature ranges, I usually focus on the lowest and highest temperatures to determine if the range is sufficient. The Vessel Expedition model has a decent low temperature for flavour, but the highest setting could be a bit higher to give you more control over your vaping experience.

It’s not surprising that the Expedition series and Vessel, in general, prioritize flavourful vapour rather than producing big clouds. That’s why its temperature range is lower compared to units like the Rhotron, which can reach a maximum temperature of 4.2V but also has a lowest setting of 2.7V. Ultimately, the choice depends on what you’re looking for in a vape.

Battery Life

The Vessel Expedition comes with a 240mAh lithium-ion rechargeable battery, which sits in the middle ground when it comes to capacity. For the heavy vaper, this means you’ll likely find yourself recharging daily. The device’s power management seems to falter slightly, with the battery depleting before the indicator suggests, leading to less effective heating for your sessions.

For these heavy users, I would recommend a bigger battery, like the Zeus Ion, which comes with a 650mAh battery. It significantly outperforms the Vessel in terms of capacity. This larger battery, coupled with the convenience of a USB-C charging port, means faster and more accessible charging, taking about an hour to charge fully.

While the Vessel Expedition’s battery life may not be the pinnacle of performance, it’s important to note that it still holds its own in the market. The magnetic charging port is a user-friendly feature, and the auto-off function after 15 minutes of inactivity helps conserve battery life. Additionally, the overuse and charging protection features add a layer of safety and longevity to the device.

Overall, for those who prioritize a sleek design and a high-quality build over battery capacity, the Vessel Expedition remains a solid choice. However, devices like the Zeus Ion or the Utillian 50 might be more suitable options for users looking for extended use between charges.

Portability

The Vessel Expedition is a decent choice for vaping on the go. It’s slightly bigger than the smallest options, but it’s still easy to carry. You can put it in your pocket like a fancy pen. It’s sleek and discreet, so you can use it outside without drawing too much attention.

Although a few years back, the best form factor for portability was these vape pen shapes, in today’s vapourizing era, there are smaller box-style vapes that get even smaller. A perfect example is the Litl Bit; it’s tiny and lightweight. With that said, pen-style vapes are still very much the most popular form factor when it comes to portable units.

The Vessel Expedition is portable and works well with most cartridges. It feels sturdy and well-made without being too bulky. If you want a device that feels substantial but is still easy to carry, the Vessel Expedition is a good choice.

Overall Experience

The Vessel Expedition is a cool and stylish vape pen that uses a 510-thread battery. It’s designed for people who want both style and quality in their arsenal.

In terms of design, the Vessel Expedition balances practicality with a polished look. It’s not as fancy as some other models, but it’s built to last and easy to use. You can adjust the power settings to find the perfect balance of flavour and vapour thickness. While it’s not as compact as some of its competition, its sleek design and thoughtful features make it convenient and discreet for vaping on the go.

The Vessel Expedition has a 240mAh battery. It’s not the biggest battery on the market, but it works well with the pen’s streamlined design and is enough for moderate use. Compared to competitors like the Zeus Ion or Utillian 50, it’s not as powerful, but it still offers a good mix of style and practicality.

If you want to know how the Vessel Expedition ranks among other 510 thread batteries, you can check out the best 510 thread batteries ranking page.
