Review: SMOK T-PRIV
Manufacturing Quality
The manufacturing quality of the SMOK T-Priv is good. If you are familiar with any of the other SMOK mods, you can expect more of the same. There really isnt much of a functional difference between this and other high-powered SMOK mods, youre just getting something different stylistically.
There are a lot of Privs in the SMOK lineup, but this one is more like the H-Priv than the G-Priv. The G-Priv is the one with the touch screen, the H-Priv has the screen on top. The T-Priv also has a screen on top.
Before I go on, I have to ask: who is naming these things? While the manufacturing quality may be good, the naming is horrendous. This is true for most vapes, to be honest. I just dont get it. Its not like they had a great name and wanted to stick with it. What is Priv? It certainly doesnt mean anything to me. This is such a cool looking mod, and the best they could come up with is T-Priv?
Anyway, like I was saying, the screen is on top of the mod. The menu is the classic SMOK setup and isnt difficult to navigate. Im still waiting to see upgrades to the menu, but it certainly is good enough to get the job done. The only new thing youll find in the T-Privs menu is an area for adjusting the colors of the lights.
The lights are the real selling point for this mod, along with the 19 color options. The exterior of this has slashes in the metal that either make it look like a Transformer or like it was attacked by something with large claws, depending on what color you have. These slashes expose the lights inside, and you can adjust the color of these lights and whether theyre solid, blinking, or slowly fading. Users who are interested in 510 thread cartridges for oil often prefer the Tronian Nutron.
The fire button is a whole side trigger, and there is a micro USB port for upgrading the firmware. You can also charge the batteries through this, but its much better to use an external charger.
The tank included with the kit is the Big Baby. No surprises there. If youve bought a SMOK kit in the last year or so, your options were pretty much the Baby Beast or the Big Baby. Im not complaining though, because the Big Baby is built very well, complete with airflow adjustments, a top-fill design, and multiple coil options.
flavour Quality
The T-Priv mod works as it should, which means the vapour quality is entirely dependant on what tank you put on top. In this case, the kit comes with the Big Baby, which delivers both great flavour and big clouds.
There are two coils included with the kit. The first is the 0.4ohm V8 Baby-Q2 Dual Coil. As the name implies, there are two coils in this. It performs well, but I personally think the other one does a better all-around job.
If youve been using big box mods with 510 carts it may be time to look for something smaller, most vapers tend to start with Linx Hermes 3 for their oil because it is much more compact than a mod.
Its the 0.15ohm V8 Baby-T8 Octuple Coil. It delivers much bigger clouds, but at 60W the flavour is every bit as good as the other coil in my opinion.
Power Flexibility
This is a very easy to use kit. The T-Priv mod has a large fire bar on the side and two buttons (up and down) for navigating the menu and setting the power or temperature.
If you have used a recent SMOK mod, you should be able to pick this up and use it without even reading the manual. If you havent, it shouldnt take you more than a couple of minutes to figure out.
The Big Baby is also beginner-friendly. The airflow adjusts with a simple twist, and the top opens easily to refill the chamber. You shouldnt run into any problems here.
Portability
The portability isnt all that great. Its not like this thing is huge and bulky, but it certainly cant compare to some of the increasingly tiny options out there. Theres a trade-off that you have to make when choosing a mod.
To get one with high wattage, you pretty much have to have dual 18650s inside, which means the size is going to be bigger too. This one is too big for me to say it would be comfortable for pocket carrying, but it feels good in the hand.
Overall Experience
The SMOK T-Priv is a good mod, and the Big Baby is a great way to complete the kit.
The performance is great, and it has all the features you could want from a modern, high-powered mod. The tank performs well, delivering both excellent flavour and big clouds. Despite all this, the T-Priv is obviously not for everyone.
The reason is that the design is rather aggressive in the sense that it 100% will attract attention. Its bright and flashy, in a very literal way. Depending on your preferences, this could either be the reason you absolutely have to have it or a major turn-off.
If you like the design and are looking for a high-powered mod, I have no problem recommending the T-Priv.
Those just starting out may feel this is too much vape for them and for you I would say check out the Coolfire IV 100W. And for those who want a portable vape that doesn’t sacrifice power, we highly recommend the Vaporesso Target Mini.
