Boundless CFX Vaporizer Review – Unchained

 

The Boundless CFX features precise temperature control through the LCD display on the front of the unit similar to Arizer Solo 2. You can set the unit anywhere between 25 degrees Celcius and 220 degrees Celsius. This gives users a wide range of temperatures available to them which allows each user to find their own preferred temperature. Those who prefer full flavour will want to use the device at around 180 – 190, while those who enjoy big exhales will want to go hotter, around 210 – 220 Celsius. Ultimately the choice is up to you and it will take some playing around to find the right temperature for you.

 

The vapour quality from the CFX is quite good. It definitely is not as pure or smooth as the Mighty’s vapour quality and on the first few uses there was a slight plastic flavour from the mouthpiece, but that seemed to diminish with time. However overall draws from the CFX were very satisfying, at the highest temperature, 220 degrees Celsius, you are able to get large dense clouds of vapour but the vapour is a bit harsh and will have you reaching for a glass of water.  Because the CFX does provide precise temperature customizing your session is easy and each user should be able to find their own “sweet spot” when it comes to prefer vapour consistency and flavour. Airflow is a little more restricted than the Mighty, but more free flowing than most other vapourizers on the market, which helps provide the user with large smooth draws. Users that want a superior level of filtration usually prefer devices that come with glass mouthpiece such as the Utillian 421 Vaporizer.

While plastic exteriors are not ideal for vapourizers because they tend to be fragile so far we have not had an issue with the CFX. The unit feels very well machined; there are no observable defects from the molding process, buttons press easily and are responsive with the device, and the mouthpiece fits snugly on the device. One of the most impressive aspects of this unit is the large digital display. In my opinion this is the best looking display on a vapourizer thus far, it is large, bright, and clear. The only downside is that I found myself struggling to see the display in really sunny situations, but this is an issue with digital displays on vapourizers across the board. The nice thing with the CFX is that it does have haptic feedback as well like the Zeus Arc, so you don’t need to stare at your screen to know if the device has reached temperature.

 

Like most units nowadays the Boundless CFX uses a rechargeable lithium battery that can be charged with a micro USB cable. Charging takes roughly 2 – 3 hours depending on how depleted your battery is and a charge seems to last about 90 minutes.  When compared to the other heavy hitters, like the Crafty and Mighty, the battery of the CFX stacks up well. It easily outperforms the Crafty and is pretty much on par with the Mighty, though the Mighty does seem to charge faster, probably due to the fact that it charges with its own proprietary charger rather than USB. The one issue I did have with this unit is the battery indicator, it seemed to constantly fluctuate, leaving me a bit perplexed on how charged my device currently was. When a battery indicator fluctuates like this on any electronic device it usually points towards a cheap battery. This makes me question the longevity of the internal battery on the CFX and leaves me with a bit of concern with how the unit will charge and operate a year in, especially since the battery does not seem to be removable like other devices offer such as the Davinci IQC.

From a functionality standpoint we really enjoyed the Boundless CFX it has great vapour quality that would satisfy most users, despite the initial plastic taste. The device is easy to use right out of the box and does not have much of a learning curve before you start blowing clouds. The big bright LCD display gives you full control over your temperature settings allowing you to customize your sessions to your preferred temperature. We do wish this unit was smaller, it may be smaller than the Mighty but is not as compact as the Crafty and because we feel it is still a little large for the ideal portable unit. This unit is good and if you don’t need  your unit to be very portable than the CFX will serve you well. If the affordable convection vapour of the CFX piqued your interest but you are looking for something more portable we encourage you to check out the Utillian 722, another affordable convection vapourizer that is far more portable than the CFX.
