The Yocan Evolve Plus<\/a> wax pen features a dual quartz coil atomizer, a 1100mah battery, and a built-in wax storage container for easier transportation. Like most Yocan vapes<\/a>, this wax pen is as simple and straightforward as it gets and may be a good starting point for beginners.<\/p>\n

This device, while great for the wax users out there that are really new and don’t want to commit to spending much, the saying that “I am not rich enough to buy cheap stuff”, holds true here as this Chinese brand’s unit only comes with 14 days warranty as the coils burn out in no time compared to western brands.<\/p>\n

You will be getting the job done, but the unit is not like a Utillian 2<\/a>, which comes with multiple temperature settings and higher technology buckets and magnetic systems.<\/p>\n

How it Works<\/h3>\n

To load your Yocan Evolve Plus, twist the mouthpiece to remove it from the body of the pen and expose the atomizer. Next, unscrew the coil cap to expose the heating chamber and load the chamber with your choice of concentrates. We recommend loading the concentrates directly to the coils but be sure not to touch the coils with your metal packing tool as it can damage them. Once your wax is loading in place, put the coil cap back on the atomizer and screw it back on the mouthpiece.<\/p>\n

To turn the wax pen on, press the power button on the unit 5 times quickly. The light around the button will illuminate to let you know the device is now active. Now simply press on the power button while you draw from the mouthpiece.<\/p>\n

This device only offers one temperature setting which we will get into a little later in the post but this is a big issue for most avid wax users. A better unit would be the Utillian 2<\/a> which comes with 4 different settings.<\/p>\n

We have been noticing that these cheaper-style wax pens are becoming a little boring to average users. \"Temperature<\/a>Temperature Flexibility<\/h3>\n

The Yocan Evolve Plus does not offer any type of temperature control, which is a bit disappointing. It seems like temperature control is not a feature Yocan puts much stock in as none of the units we have reviewed, like the Yocan Magneto, feature the ability to control your temperature. While we aren’t expecting full temperature control from a device this compact, something like the voltage presets found in devices such as the Core portable e-rig<\/a> would’ve been appreciated.<\/p>\n

The only way you can try and regulate the temperature on the Yocan Evolve Plus is by pulsing the power button as you draw. What we mean by this, is rather than just holding down the power button and drawing, hold the power button down for 3 seconds, release it for 1 second, hold it for another 2 seconds, release it, etc. This will help maintain an even temperature and will keep the coils from getting too hot.<\/p>\n

All in all this is a major setback in today’s standards for wax pens but is normal when talking about a beginner style\/cheaper pen.<\/p>\n

Vapor Quality<\/h3>\n

Vapor Quality from the Yocan Evolve Plus wax pen is what we expected from a dual coil quartz atomizer. This atomizer setup is not exactly groundbreaking and has been utilized on a lot of concentrate vaporizers<\/a> or wax pens. On the other hand, we have units like the Utillian 5<\/a> that come with a Kanthal coil for flavor and a triple titanium coil for bigger hits.<\/p>\n

If you just press and hold the Evolve Plus, your draws tend to get very harsh and start to taste burnt by the end.<\/p>\n

For the price, the Yocan Evolve Plus is exactly what you would expect. Yocan tries to set itself apart from other wax pen manufacturers with its atomizer cap system. This cap works similarly to a carb cap on a traditional rig, allowing the ambient temperature around the coils to remain hot for a more efficient vaporization process but overall this device\u00a0doesn’t focus on the core elements that make a wax pen useful.<\/p>\n

Another thing to notice is that the coils that come with the unit are not durable and you will find yourself purchasing many replacements throughout your time using this device.<\/p>\n

In contrast, the Utillian 5, which is considered the most powerful workhorse in the wax pen segment, comes with the most mind-bending coils and a warranty that is 1 year as opposed to the 14 days of the Evolve.<\/p>\n

The Yocan Evolve is shaped closer to a marker than it is a pen. This extra girth means that Yocan was able to outfit the Evolve Plus with a 1100mah battery.\u00a0 If you’re looking for a similar device with a larger battery, then the 1500mAh offered by the Utillian 5<\/a> is another device worth checking out.<\/p>\n

In our tests, we found with moderate usage we were only about to go a few sessions before needing to charge the Yocan Evolve Plus battery.<\/p>\n

The battery on the Evolve Plus charges via micro USB. Although not many wax pens come with USB-C, we would of like this device to at least sin on this regard. Users looking for a sleeker unit usually tend to prefer devices like the Source Orb 4 Premium Kit that removable battery that allows them to swap the battery with a new one once finished.<\/span><\/p>\n

As we previously mentioned, this wax pen is not so much pen-shaped as it is marker shaped. While it is wider than a lot of wax pens, it will still easily slip into a pocket or bag for easy transportation.<\/p>\n

The Evolve Plus also features a built-in silicone wax container which makes taking your concentrates with you easier. Not many wax pens feature something like this, but the Tronian Gammatron<\/a>, in our opinion, does it slightly better. If the storage container is something that you are attracted to, we recommend looking at that device instead.<\/p>\n

In terms of battery capacity, the Evolve Plus holds its own, albeit making it slightly more convenient for on-the-go use. However, when stacked against other top contenders in the wax pen market, many of which come with larger batteries, it\u2019s challenging to assert that the Evolve is superior in this regard. However, for users who prioritize an outstanding vaporizing experience and a modern approach to vaporizing over portability, exploring other options like the Vapor Cup<\/a> may be worthwhile.
