How it Works<\/h3>\n

Like most electric e-nails, the Pulsar Rok can be loaded hot or cold with a small amount of material. Roughly the size of a rice grain should be sufficient for heavy hits. Fill the bubbler up slightly higher than the downstems percolator, and then 5 clicks of the button to turn the device on. Allow the device to heat up and then put the carb cap on the device and inhale smoothly.\u00a0 You should come up to temperature after roughly 30 seconds.<\/p>\n

The included ceramic atomizer is designed for use with dry herbs, however, we would never suggest using this unless you want to combust and spend an eternity cleaning it!<\/p>\n

\"PulsarTemperature Flexibility<\/h3>\n

The Rok only has three temperature settings, 3.4v, 3.6v, and 3.8v. This is a bit disappointing as these voltages supposedly correlate to 900, 950, and 1000\u00b0F, or 482, 510, and 538\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

This is way, way, way hotter than you\u2019ll want to dab at. You\u2019ll immediately scorch your wax and the flavor will certainly not be anywhere what you would like it to be. A big no from us here.<\/p>\n

Using high temperatures in a wax pen usually correlate to stronger vapors and less flavor and vice versa. However,\u00a0 users that desire both smooth vapors and pure flavor usually tend to prefer units like the Linx Blaze<\/a> that offers not only high temperature ranges but low temperature ranges.<\/p>\n

\"Pulsar<\/p>\n

Vapor Quality<\/h3>\n

With such high temperatures, we must say \u2013 it kind of sucks. The atomizer gets far too hot for pleasant hits even though the bubbler cools it down quite well.<\/p>\n

However, when pulsing the fire button properly, the vapor quality is much better. You can somewhat guess the best temperatures and get good vapor, but this takes skill and patience to learn it. Overall, the Pulsar Rok doesn\u2019t perform nearly as well as other wax devices like the Utillian 5 Wax pen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Manufacturing Quality<\/h3>\n

Pulsars build quality has always been quite hit and miss and the Pulsar Rok follows that trend. The design is unique but pleasant, however, the plastic on top isn\u2019t so nice and the glass isn\u2019t quite as thick as we\u2019d prefer. The entire unit feels a bit cheap unlike the classy Kandypens Elite<\/a> and we\u2019re not so fond of how you can\u2019t really see the bubbler so easily either.<\/p>\n

They do include a decent kit consisting of the rig itself, dab tool, wire brushes, carb cap, quartz cup, ceramic cup, silicone collars, usb charger, and cleaning buds. This is alright however the whole kit doesn\u2019t exactly feel as premium as we\u2019d like either. <\/div><\/div>

\n

\"BatteryBattery Life<\/h3>\n

Pulsar claims 25-30 session per full charge, but in practice, you can expect roughly half of that. That\u2019s definitely not too bad by any means but it\u2019s not too great either. If you\u2019re an occasional user this wouldn\u2019t be so bad, but for extended sessions with friends, you might be wanting a bit more something like the Source Orb 4 Signature Kit<\/a> that offers a removable battery letting users get non stop sessions without worrying for the charge.<\/span><\/p>\n

The non-removable battery also means once it goes flat, you\u2019re left with a dead unit. It charges via standard Micro USB which will take roughly 2-3 hours to top up as well. Quite underwhelming if you tell us.<\/p>\n

\"Pulsar<\/h3>\n

Portability<\/h3>\n

At less than 7 inches tall, it\u2019s quite small. Of course, not pocket-sized but definitely fits in a backpack quite well and doesn\u2019t weigh too much.<\/p>\n

Not ideal for most situations but definitely easy to bring to a friend\u2019s place. It\u2019s about as portable as the Puffco peak<\/a> is.<\/p>\n

\"Ease<\/h3>\n

Ease of Use<\/h3>\n

With a one-button operation and a well-written user manual, it\u2019s pretty easy to get a hang of and learn quite well. Still, to get the best results there\u2019s quite a learning curve and passing off to friends and strangers may leave them underwhelmed. We\u2019re not so fond of its practicality.<\/p>\n

Users who are new to vaping prefer units like the Yocan Evolve Plus<\/span><\/a> that has little to no learning curve at all.<\/p>\n

\"Pulsar<\/p>\n

Discreetness<\/h3>\n

Any portable e-rig will have you catching looks left and right if used in public. Left on your table it may just look like a very alien device.<\/p>\n

Of course, you probably won\u2019t be using this in situations where discretion is important so it\u2019s not too bad. Certainly, no stranger looking than the Carta and Peak.<\/p>\n

Users that prefer more discreetness usually prefer devices like the Utillian 2 Wax Pen<\/a> because of its sleek design and its lower temperature range option helps produce less visible vapor.<\/p>\n

\"OverallOverall Experience<\/h3>\n

We say save your money and look elsewhere, the Rok isn\u2019t quite as good as we hoped it to be.<\/p>\n

Cheap build quality, poor temperature control, high price, no USB-C, and useless dry herb function makes it a pass for us in every way. The Focusvape Carta feels much more premium, with a better built and performs much better. Even the Tourist offers a better vapor experience than what we got out of the Rok.<\/p>\n

The Rok is still in pre-release and any changes may occur, however at the time of the review we recommend Pulsar to change up the circuit board, charging port to USB-C, and use better quality materials. Not worth the steep investment.
